During the final days of the provisional tax season, high traffic volumes may cause delays in submitting provisional tax returns to SARS—even after you've clicked 'submit' on our website.
To avoid late payment penalties, we recommend paying the estimated provisional tax amount shown on our website. Once your provisional return (IRP6) appears in eFiling and your SARS provisional Statement of Account is available, you can settle any difference, (hopefully) before the deadline.
Steps to obtain your provisional tax payment details from TaxTim:
1. Log in to TaxTim
2. Click "My Tax Returns"
3 Click on the IRP6 that you just filed
4. Click the black button "Review Submission"
5. The total tax payable and Payment reference number will display
The system-generated payment reference number for Period 1 will begin with your 10-digit income tax reference number, followed by "01", and then the tax year for which you are filing.
For Period 2, the payment reference number will also start with your 10-digit income tax reference number, followed by "02", and then the relevant tax year.
When your IRP6 reflects in eFiling, you can run a Provisional Statement of Account to ensure your balance after making the tax payment is nil. If you have made your second payment and the balance is not nil, it will mean that you have unpaid tax, interest or penalties from the prior period that you need to settle.
