TaxTim uses the financial information which you entered to work out the payment due on your provisional tax return (also called an IRP6). However, there may be some information we don’t have access to, which won’t be included in the estimate of your provisional tax payment. To see what SARS has on record, you will need to request a Provisional Statement of Account (provisional SOA). TaxTim should also send this on to you.
The difference between the amount on your provisional tax return in TaxTim and what SARS has on record could be due to a few reasons:
Unpaid tax from Period 1 submission:
If you did not pay SARS after you submitted your first provisional tax return, the tax will show as outstanding on your provisional SOA and it will get included in your final provisional tax liability. This will make the amount showing on the provisional SOA higher than your provisional tax estimate on TaxTim.
Late Payment:
If you miss the SARS deadline to pay your provisional tax, SARS will add penalties and interest. This will make the amount showing on the provisional Statement of Account (SOA) higher than your estimate on TaxTim.
Correction or payment:
If you file a correction on eFiling, or make additional payments after submitting your IRP6, SARS will update their records. This will cause the final tax liabillty on the provisional SOA to be different from what is showing as your provisional tax estimate on TaxTim.
For these reasons, any pre-submission calculation may not always 100% match your final provisional SOA from SARS. Please keep in mind that TaxTim's tax calculations are not intended to calculate any tax legally owing by you. Therefore, using us to file does not mean you will end up paying the exact amount we have calculated. We are simply using your data that you provided to work out the most accurate estimate of your provisional tax liability for the relevant period. You can be rest assured that we send all your information to SARS exactly as you capture it in our system and that the only legal amount owed by you, will always be shown on your Provisional Statement of Account issued by SARS.
