What are fringe benefits?

My company pays for my medical aid in full. But I get taxed more on my salary,They say its called fringe benefits. Please explain

A Fringe Benefit is when a company pays for something you benefit from outside of your salary - medical aid is one of those expenses. You do get a tax rebate for constitutions to your medical aid however.
