Rabz says: 8 July 2015 at 3:35 I received a laptop allowance on a monthly basis. Laptop belongs to me. This appears on my IRP5 under source code 3713. I received this over 3 years. Can I claim a wear and tear allowance against this income? I'm confused if I should claim over 3 years or just a single year as I've read different responses online. Also what supporting docs would SARS require? Would the tax invoice of my laptop be sufficient? Thanks |
TaxTim says: 8 July 2015 at 7:17 If the value of the laptop is less than R7000 then you can write it off over one year, if its more than R7000 then you need to split it up over 3 years. You would need some proof from your employer showing that they provide a laptop which you pay for over the period showing that you use it for work purposes. |
