Verification documents for submission

Dear Tim,I hope you can help I am really at wits' end right now with SARS. This is the situation. I subimitted my tax return via the efiling website on the 01/07/14. A refund was due to me due to private medical aid and dental procedures I paid cash which was rejected by the medical aid. On the 3rd according to my statment of account a refund was paid but then reversed the same happended for the 4th when I contacted the call centre they advised me that they had a system problem and that I am not the only person this has happened to and advise I would get my refund the 5th. No surprise the 5th came and no refund. I went to the SARS Alberton branch which advised me because of the reversals a special hold was put on my account and they had to email head office to take this hold off and it would be finalized by Monday the 7th. Tuesday the 8th and still no refund. I contacted the call centre who advised me they have selected me for verification of documents. Not sure exactly what this entiles so submitted my IRP5 which was not suffienct as they wanted the medical aid cert and doctors expenses. I took that in into the SARS Johannesburg branch as Alberton could not help me because apparently their scanner was broken. I took it in on 12/07/2014 and was advise it would take 21 days for me to get my refund. Will I ever see this refund as when I phoned them on 16/07/2014 they advised me 31 days at the call centre. My ITA134 still advised me I am not selected for audit or verification and the same information is displayed when I request a statement of account. I am so confused and so lost and really dont know what to do with SARS anymore. How does the documents get verified at SARS? Doesnt SARS have a set time frame that they have to pay you out by? As for VAT returns they have only 21 days to pay out or you can request interest be applied does this also apply to tax?

Unfortunately interest will not accrue to you, in theory it should, but no one has been successful in this regard. Their glitch with the refunds has caused major problems and resulted in the verification and audit procedures. If you have given them all the documents then not to worry, but yes it will take some time and you will need to be patient. You will get your refund, but their systems have caused so many issues that everything is now delayed.

Dear Tim,

After submitting the relevant documentation SARS conducted the audit and advised me my documents were not valid.

I the logged a notice of objection regarding this, I uploaded my documents again and recieved a letter
on 01/08/14 advising me that my objection has been allowed.

Does this now mean that my refund will be paid out to me as I have not yet recieved and funds?

Yes, if allowed this means that they should be in a position to make payment of the refund. As to the timing you would need to call the contact centre and find out the timing, but usually this is within a week of the objection being allowed.
