Hendri says: 24 August 2015 at 12:19 I have done freelance consultancy work for 2 companies over a period of 3 months. The other months of the tax year I have been in fixed employment at a companies deducting PAYE with no travel allowance. Have not kept details of fuel and vehicle expenses. Can I claim a travelling expense for the 3 months based on kilometers driven ito the fixed cost and variable cost travel allowance method? If not what method should I use for travel expenses as a deduction against the production of the consultancy income. |
TaxTim says: 24 August 2015 at 17:00 Yes, you can claim travel expenses against your freelance income as long as you have kept a logbook to justify your kms travelled for business. The kms must be less than the annual limit of 8000 kms. The SARS official rate per km for 2015 was R3,30 and it has decreased to R3,18 for the current tax year (2016). This rate includes wear and tear and petrol and other travelling costs. |
