Kyle says: 29 July 2015 at 6:49 Hi Tax Tim. On 06/07/2015 I went to submit my tax returns as far back as 2007. I had been living abroad working intermittently on the odd year in SA. SARS were great, all tax returns were filed with no claims on any tax deductions so no supporting documents required. I have a tax return due to me however because the 2007 tax return was so far back its gone for processing and now is holding up my tax return from all the other years. The 2007 tax return is a very simple one, its pure Income tax, no claims, no supporting docs required, no need for an audit. When I called the call centre to query when I could expect my tax returns they told me 90 days, (originally I was told the end of this month). Surely there is someone other than the call centre that I can speak to in the relevant department to get this finalized. Even my disputes against my penalties is finished with, its just the 2007 tax return holding everthing up. What can I d as I really need my money asap. |
TaxTim says: 29 July 2015 at 7:49 Unfortunately not, the issue here is the length of time and SARS do not place urgency. You can try escalate the matter via the call centre. What was their reasoning for an additional 90 days? Did they tell you it was going for a full audit? |
Kyle says: 29 July 2015 at 8:55 The contact centre were the ones who advised me it will take 90 days as this is the standard time given for old/aged returns submission, when I asked them if this includes just a straight submission with no docs required and therefore no auditing, the contact centre agent said yes. When I was doing the return submissions the SARS consultant who assisted me said it would take 21 working days, so im not sure which timeline to work on? |
TaxTim says: 29 July 2015 at 20:43 This is quite typical as there are always different stories. Once it is with the auditors it really is out of your hands I am afraid so please check in with us after 21 days and then you can phone and try escalate the issue. |
