Tax submition in review and are we noified of penalties or surprised?

Hi TaxTim, thank you for a great blog-site!
I have a question, I have submitted my tax, also got the letter requesting the IRP5 as code 4102, PAYE credit of R30 551.15 was being questioned. I have submitted the respective IRP5 for review already. Do you have knowledge of:

1. How they would go about inspecting whatever they feel might be wrong on it?
2. How long that process could possibly take?
3. Would they pay out another(next) year if the previous is under above review?

Then I would also like to know how would one determine/find out if we owe any admin penalties for not filing on-time. I have searched this on eFiling, but I don't seem to find anything. I don't want to be caught off-guard and unfortunately right now don't have the time to try step into a branch...

Click on SARS correspondence on your eFiling profile site and look for admin penalties, if there are any penalties they should be there. Or else on your Income Tax Working Page you will see an APT letter. However I would still call 0800 00 7277 to double check.

SARS can take a few days to a few weeks to go through the process of verification. Often they need to check with the employer or just do a random check with their already received employer records. They will not pay out until all returns are filed.
