Tax Directive was 18%, but SARS taxed me at 25%. Why?

Hi Tim,

My income is based on a 100% commission, no salary and no benefits. I applied for a tax directive from SARS and received one at 18%. However, when I did my return I was taxed at 25%. What am I missing here?

The directive is just an indicator as to what your employer should deduct. However your actual taxes are based on your earnings and you most likely then fell into the higher 25% tax bracket.
