SARS: Verification of Assessment

Hi Tim

I submitted my return via efiling on 16 August 2013 and received notice to submit supporting documents which I did on 21 August 2013. It was confirmed that the supporting documents were in order. On 3 September 2013 I received SARS correspondence for my attention on efiling. When I logged in my efiling status is "Correction filed" and the description of the letter is "Completion letter". The contents of the letter is as follows:

"Dear Taxpayer

VERIFICATION OF ASSESSMENT

We refer to the verification of your assessment for the 2013 tax period. Please note that no adjustment has been made to this assessment. However, in terms of the Tax Administration Act the South African Revenue Service reserves the right to conduct further reviews in future if required.

Should you have any queries please call the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 SARS (7277). Remember to have your ID number or income tax number at hand when you call to enable us to assist you promptly."

What does that means? SARS language can be complicated at times. Please advise.

This means that nothing was changed from the original assessment received straight after you submitted your return and if you were due a refund then this be paid to you most likely tomorrow.
