TaxTim says: 8 March 2016 at 9:40 If you worked for part of the tax year, and did not work for some months, there is a chance that you are due a tax refund from SARS. This is because tax is calculated based on an annualised amount, on the assumption that you worked for 12 months of the year. The 2016 tax filing season (i.e. for 1 March 2015 - 28 Feb 2016) opens on 1 July 2016.
