Louisa says: 13 October 2015 at 12:46 If I am working from home as a free-lance journalist, can I claim office expenses like paper, ink, internet and cell phone costs and if so, where do I claim these under? |
TaxTim says: 13 October 2015 at 20:36 Yes, all the expenses are claimable as they are incurred in production of your income. You would declare them within the "Local Business Trade and Professional Income" section of your Tax Return in the block for "other expenditure" and include a description of what they relate to. Remember to pro-rata your cellphone costs between business and personal as only the business portion will be claimable. |
Louisa says: 14 October 2015 at 13:52 Hi, I don't have a section like like on my tax return form. Perhaps I am filling in the wrong kind of form? Or can you only make these deductions if you are a provisional tax payer? |
TaxTim says: 14 October 2015 at 20:08 In the opening questions, you need to answer "yes" to the question asking if you earn local business, trade or professional income. The relevant section of the Tax Return will then be generated. |
