Maunual intervention on assessment?

What does it mean when sars says that the assessment needs manual intervention (2007) and how long does this take?

Also I have to pay a penalty, do I pay after intervention? Or will they deduct penalty from my return?

This means that the system cannot generate the verification automatically and actual SARS officials will have a look at the return and assess. The penalty will need to be settled first, ordinarily SARS should be deducting and paying the difference if there were one, but the seem to be wanting upfront payment now before settling anything.

Thank you for the reply.
Should we pay the penalty now? Or wait for the assessment to be completed?

How long does a assessment normally take? And what can we do to speed it up?

There is nothing you can do to speed it up unfortunately. It can take anywhere from a week to a few months. I would suggest waiting a few weeks, if by the end of the month no assessment was done then you should pay the penalty as it is monthly and incurs interest.
