Corné says: 7 July 2015 at 12:02 I received an ITA34 and a letter from SARS. It asks me for relevant material for source code 4027. Must I get a letter from my employer confirming that I use my laptop for work an must my IRP5 be changed? |
TaxTim says: 7 July 2015 at 12:20 Yes you need to get a letter and send proof how you worked out the amount for the depreciation. You can also go into eFiling and click Request Correction and then remove this amount and refile. |
Corné says: 7 July 2015 at 12:36 I have been using my personal laptop for work purposes for almost 2 years now. I did not work out the depreciation. I only put in the dates and it was automatically worked out. |
TaxTim says: 7 July 2015 at 12:53 Are you referring to the TaxTim depreciation tool here? |
Corné says: 7 July 2015 at 12:57 Yes |
TaxTim says: 7 July 2015 at 14:07 So the calculation you would show SARS is the cost of the asset divided by 3 and then you would need to show them how you derived business use over total use. SO if you have some data showing how you calculated the business use vs personal use then SARS would want to see that data / those documents / records. |
