Chris says: 8 July 2015 at 8:27 I have just filed a tax return through you but could not find a place for deducting professional fees. This includes having to pay and annual registration fee as Psychologist as well as having to attend professional education sessions to maintain my registration. The combined amount comes to about R2100. Is this not deductible? My company, City of Cape Town does not pay for this as they see it as part of my Total Cost to Company and I have to pay it myself. |
TaxTim says: 8 July 2015 at 11:53 Are you a normal salaried individual? |
Chris says: 8 July 2015 at 11:57 Yes I am, but am required to maintain my professional registration in order to do the work I am doing. I also do some work in my private capacity, but for free. |
TaxTim says: 8 July 2015 at 11:59 Unfortunately this will not qualify then, SARS see it as a "capital expenditure" sort of like a tree which produces fruit whereby the cost of the trees are not deductible because they produce the income earning fruit. |
