Mmampho says: 1 April 2022 at 9:01 I went for an interview last week and the recruitment officer told us that as an employee you will need a tax number, but she then said she might apply on behalf of some of us and we might receive an SMS. Yesterday I received an SMS saying I have been registered and they send me a ten-digit number and said it's a tax reference number, how do I know if the number really is my tax number? |
TaxTim says: 1 April 2022 at 17:52 If you are registered for a South African tax number it will come from the South African Revenue Service tax office (SARS) and will be either sent to you by SMS or email. You can either phone the SARS call centre directly on 0800 00 7277 to confirm your tax number or you can go to the SARS website to request your tax number. Step 1: Go to the SARS home webpage: https://www.sars.gov.za/Pages/default.aspx , Step 2: Select the "What is my tax number" block, (direct link: https://tools.sars.gov.za/SOQS/?queryType=11 ) Step 3: Complete your personal information as requested (the information currently available to SARS) Step 4: Select Submit. SARS will then send your Tax number to the option you chose (either SMS or Email) The tax number for individuals will start with 0,1,2 or 3. Alternatively, you can request the number from your payroll department or login into your SARS efiling profile to retrieve the tax number. 135 |
