CycleDaddy says: 4 August 2015 at 14:43 I have exactly the same question as Immortal at the bottom of https://www. Taxtim. Com/za/blog/may-i-deduct-contributions-made-to-my-fathers-medical-aid. Is your answer still relevant for the current tax regulations? What do we need to do and how do I claim for the contributions made by me? |
TaxTim says: 4 August 2015 at 15:36 Is she financially dependent on you? |
CycleDaddy says: 4 August 2015 at 19:37 What classify someone as financially dependant? She was employed on a contract basis and the contract ended in December 2013. She received a bonus which we saved and used during last year for groceries and other small expenses on a monthly basis. I basically took over all her accounts, like medical aid, retirement annuity, cell phone, insurance, ect. Kind regards |
TaxTim says: 5 August 2015 at 12:12 Given that she relies on you for all her cost of living she could be classified as being financially dependent on you. You would then claim the medical aid expenditure, if SARS requests supporting documents you would need to send them proof of payment and a letter explaining why you are paying the medical aid. |
