If I don't remember my tax reference number like I do now, how do I go about it ?

A: You can usually find your tax number on your IRP5 or payslip from your employer. If your tax number is not on those documents or if you are self-employed, you can also phone SARS on 0800 00 7277 to check or you can request it online by following these steps:
  1. Visit the SARS website.
  2. On the top menu bar, click on "Contact Us".
  3. Click on the "Request your Tax number"
  4. Complete the form and choose "What's My Tax Number" as the query type
  5. SARS will send you your tax number if they were able to verify your credentials.
OR
  1. You can get it on eFiling if you are registered as an eFiler. All you need to do is log on and check your number.
  2. You can also request your notice of registration via the MobiAppif you are a registered eFiler.
  3. eFiling has been updated to allow taxpayers to request the Notice of Registration (IT150) under the 'SARS Registered Details' menu option.
  4. At a SARS branch. Remember to make an appointment before you visit a branch.
If you have not registered, then you can do so on eFiling or at a branch. For More info on how to find or apply for a tax number visit our guide here https://www.taxtim.com/za/tax-guides/get-a-tax-number
