How to start a small family business legally?

I would like to start a small company/business, mainly selling parts for home/small office computers in South Africa. I will also sell my service of assisting to fix PC's. How to I go about registering, and what would I register the business as? Are there fees involved and or TAX/VAT registration needed?

You need to register a company with CIPC which can be done using an agent or by yourself by going to www.cipc,co.za.

After you have a company registered you would need to register with SARS for Income Tax and only for VAT if you wish to voluntarily after producing invoices of R50 000 or more or when your Turnover exceeds R1 000 000 per year.
