Koos says: 3 March 2024 at 7:26 I worked some overtime in the past few months. I am wondering how to calculate the tax on it. What tax bracket does overtime fall under? |
TaxTim says: 4 March 2024 at 10:19 There are no separate tax tables for overtime. Overtime is taxed using the normal tax tables for individuals. Your employer will include the overtime on your monthly payslip and will deduct and pay over the tax on it, in exactly the same way as your salary. Your total overtime will be added to your salary and then the tax brackets will be applied to the total income to work out the tax due. When your tax return is submitted for the year, if you underpaid or overpaid tax during the year, the difference will be worked out and you will need to pay in (i.e you underpaid) or receive a refund (i.e you overpaid). You can refer to the Tax rate tables to see in which tax bracket you fall. You can use our salary tax calculator to work out your net pay on your salary plus overtime. |
