A friend of mine in America has given me some money as a gift. It is mainly to cover monthly living expenses. I am a student with no income and I still live with my parents. Do I have to fill in tax forms for the money?

No you do not need to pay tax on these amounts, how much is it?

It was around R11000. I'm not sure if he will send money to me again. But the overall amounts probably won't exceed R40000.

No that's fine you will not need to pay anything on that.
