Concened says: 8 August 2015 at 11:02 Hi there, I submitted my tax rerun for this year and SARS have requested returns for 2011 and 2012. Since they didn't ask for these last year, am I correct in assuming that I didn't need to submit them in the past and will therefor not be penalized? Also, my 2012 return has been selected for verification. Im assuming this is a random selection or perhaps because the three returns together equate to a refund due to me of around R12 000. I cant see any other reason for audit as the only thing I ever adjust on the efiling submission are the medical aid contributions and claims not paid as per my medical aid certificate as my medical aid contributions are 100% paid by me. Does this sound right? I submitted the returns on the 22/07/2015 and also submitted my medical aid certificate as part of the 2012 verification on the same day (I didn't submit the IRP 5 for that year as I made no adjustments to the IRP 5 section in efiling and I do not have that IRP 5 available) SARS have said over the phone since that necessary docs have been received but refund could be delayed due to audit. To date I have had no correspondence from them other that the initial letter requesting verification docs. Its been 13 working days and most people I know get payments with in around 10 after being selected for verification. Should I be worried? |
TaxTim says: 9 August 2015 at 13:14 SARS have 21 working days to perform their audit so there is still a time to wait unfortunately. This is part of a new process of theirs in asking for old returns despite them not being needed to be filed. There is nothing to worry about, you just need to wait for the process to be completed. |
