Deducting Training expenses

I'm a self-employed private practice physiotherapist. Can I claim tax deductions on a one year course that I've completed to enhance my qualification? If so, are the monies used to buy the textbooks also deductible?

Unfortunately not, these courses are seen as a type of capital in nature and therefore not deductible for tax purposes.
