Soon to be expat says: 25 July 2015 at 20:32 I will be leaving SA next month to work in Canada for the foreseeable future. I would have been out if the country for more than 183 days by the end of Feb 2016. I will have an IRP 5 with a salaried income in SA until the end of July 2015. When I file my tax return next year, do I have to include the overseas income earned from August 2015 to February 2016? I do understand that I should not be liable to be taxed on the overseas income but would prefer not to declare it at all if that would be allowed. |
TaxTim says: 26 July 2015 at 11:10 Do you intend returning to South Africa at all once you have left? Are you working for an SA company? |
Soon to be expat says: 26 July 2015 at 12:54 I might return but not for at least 4-5 years. I am not emigrating financially but may in the future choose to do so. I will not be working for a SA company - In Canada I will be registering a professional corporation and pay myself a salary from my own corporation. |
TaxTim says: 26 July 2015 at 13:29 Then that is ok, you can just submit the income earned in SA for the tax year when you do the IRP5. |
