Cannot access refund due to a special stopper

SARS owes me a refund but according to the call centre they placed a stopper on my tax account and now need to see proof of the payment I made that caused the refund. I did make this payment, but the bank account I used to pay it to SARS has since closed.
How else can I prove that I did in fact make this payment?

Unfortunately, the only way you can get this refund released by SARS is if you send them the necessary documents, if you can't access them, you can Swear An Affidavit in which you explain the reason you can't send the documents, SARS should be able to take things from there for you.
Generally, SARS would need to see the proof of your payment and a letter explaining why you made this payment if it was not due to be paid by you on your assessment.
You should also bear in mind, depending on the reason SARS owes you a refund, if the refund due to you is because a deposit was made into your tax account, SARS would need proof that you personally made this payment to them. This is because many taxpayers make payments to incorrect tax reference numbers. To cover themselves, any payments to your tax account need to be supported by either an assessment debt, etc.
