Can I claim a fixed cost travel deduction if I receive a reimbursive travel allowance?

I am needing to do tax returns going back to 2010!! If I received a reimbursive travel allowance (reflected under code 3702 on my IRP5), can I claim a travel deduction based on the fixed cost method?

Did you keep a logbook in the event SARS ask for proof of your travel? You can do your returns back to 2010. Register for TaxTim and let us assist you in completing and submitting your return to SARS.

Yes I did keep a logbook for all my tax years.
I am just not sure that because it is a reimbursive allowance (and not a normal fixed travel allowance) if this has any bearing on the deduction you can claim?

What source code appears on your IRP5 3702 or 3703?

3702 appears on my IRP 5 - a reimbursive travel allowance.

You would still complete the tax return and the travel allowance section of the tax return using your logbook. SARS will then deduct the business portion against the allowance received.

You can use either method, please make use of our Travel Allowance calculator to determine the best method to use.
