Melissa says: 12 January 2016 at 10:26 Am I able to claim my pension contribution if it doesn't appear on my IRP5 for the 2014 and 2015 tax years? |
TaxTim says: 12 January 2016 at 12:47 Yes, can you upload the certificates to the helpdesk for us to see them please. |
Melissa says: 12 January 2016 at 13:03 Thank you for your response; I do not have the certificates with me currently (I'm enquiring on behalf of someone else), but his IRP5 only reflects his income earned against the codes 3601 and 3698. Will he be able to obtain a certificate from the pension fund showing his contributions made and will he be able to take that to SARS in order for them to allow the deduction without it being reflected on his IRP5? |
TaxTim says: 12 January 2016 at 13:13 Yes he will, it is unusual for someone to contribute to a pension fund outside of their employer, but he can most certainly take the certificates to SARS to claim the deduction. |
Melissa says: 12 January 2016 at 13:56 Thank you; the pension is through his employer though. Do you have an idea of how he'll be able to access some kind of proof that contributions were made? |
TaxTim says: 12 January 2016 at 16:47 So there is no source code 4001 on the IRP5 under expenses? Does he actually contribute or only the employer? |
Melissa says: 12 January 2016 at 17:03 No deduction codes on the IRP5, only his income reflecting against 3601. He contributes as well as the employer. |
TaxTim says: 13 January 2016 at 8:35 That is very weird, you would have to speak to the Pension Fund itself to get the contribution certificate to take to SARS. |
