Amending the SARS assessment date?

Hello Tim,

SARS' records show that my assessment month or fin year end is Feb. My previous accountant used the financial year end date reflected on my CIPRO company registration for compiling my IFS which is Mar. She then submitted records for until 31Mar. I'm now in the process of submitting my returns for this period and would like to align SARS records with my previous accountant's submission; that is change the assessment date from Feb to Mar.

How do I go about this and what are the possible implication?

Thanking you in advance

You cannot change your individual tax years. It is always a February year end.

Thanks for the response Tim, however I was referring to the company's assessment month not my personal tax.

You would need to change the year end date with the Company Registry (CIPC) and then inform SARS of this change in order for them to make the change.
