I am a freelancer in the film industry. I have been told that I can claim back for buying a house and renovating it. Is this true? I would also like to claim back for my car expenses. I have receipts for fuel and maintenance and my opening and closing kilometers for the tax year. I'm not sure how to fill in the log book though, do I need to fill in for each trip?

I work as an sales rep. I don't know how to call this. At my previous employer I got a (leave pay bonus) if I took leave. They explained it to me at the time that because I work for commission that I was entitled to the (bonus) as if I made a sale in that month so they paid me this (leave pay)

My new company does not know what I'm talking about and my previous employer has closed down.

I bought a computer for my work (I'm a sole proprietor) and I believe that I have to apportion any depreciation I want to claim on it on my ITR12--although it is mostly used for work, I do use it a bit for non-business purposes as well.

Could you please tell me how I would calculate an apportionment like this and if I would have to have been keeping records of use for the computer?

I am busy filling in my ITR12, and I have a lot of deductions, ie depreciation etc, but when I enter my medical aid contributions, (paid by myself, R 1900 per month), and I calculate my tax return, it shows in the 4008 field R0.00. I earn a basic and my commission is more than 50% of my annual basic. I sell luxury automobiles for a living.

I see on my IRP5 under "Income received "an amount of R65 000 "Use of Motor Vehicle" (PAYE)

Is there a specefic place where I insert this amount on my tax return?

Just want to make sure if the 50% rule is still in place regarding commission income? The same as 2011/2012? Meaning your Commission income must be 50% more than other income to claim any expenses against commission.
