Medical Credit

Hi Tim. Love the website!
So, what in essence is happening is: Unless your Over 65, Disabled, Very Sick and your Out of Pocket expenses are ridiculously high and your salary very low and you contribute to 50 dependents your not going to get your refund?
Does SARS realise that this is the one time per year that regular salary earners can look forward to getting something back and now they have very cunningly taken that away from them and put that money back into their own pockets?!

Do I still have to register with SARS and fill in a tax return?

In 2012 I was paying PAYE, I got an IRP5 from work but did nothing with it as I didn't know what it really was. Then in February 2013 they raised the threshold and I no longer earn enough to pay tax. Should I still fill in a tax return for 2012? Will they charge me late fees for this?

Will TaxTim allow you to add Medical Aid, RA's,Mileage and other investments like ETF's?

I am under the impression TaxTim will easily allow you to add Retirement annuities and medical aid but how does the system work with Mileage that needs to be claimed as well as ETF's Like Satrix top 40 when you have to add it under Gross income and then taking it back under s10(1)(k).

Or have I lost the plot completely?

Regards
Edwin

2) Discovery medical aid tax certificate (From December 2012 to February 2013). Medical amount is deducted from my account not for my salary.
--- My wife(main member) and my children(dependent) are the members(am not a member of discovery medical aid)

I do not have a medical aid but have kept all my receipts for doctors and medication, what do I do o

How do I claim this back?

This was your response to a previous question - please advise why the calculator is reflecting 0?

Regardless of how much the contribution is you will only be allowed a deduction for medical aid contributions limited to R720 per month for yourself and your first dependent and then R440 per month for any further dependents.

My 2012 return for code 4008 was R17 280 - The calculator this year shows nil - Can you explain possible reason?

Thanks

Medical expenses not payed by medical aid?

Last year when I submitted my expenses I received 30% back in returns from SARS. This year when I complete my return with expenses R10 431 it gives me a return of R833 please advise - there are 4 people on my medical aid and my company pays 2/3 of the premium. My annual income is R228 000

Can I resubmit my tax after I received payment? I forgot to add disability expenses.

I submited my tax via eFiling and have received my payment as I claim for disabilty. I however only found out now that I can claim for my children school fees as they both attend special needs schools and the disabilty claim is for them. Can I request a resubmission just adding the school fees in as a disabilty expense

Allowable Medical Deductions

My monthly medical aid premium is paid to the scheme through the company (it forms part of my cost to company) but I cover the cost 100%. The total for the year is R31 694 (for me and my son).

I have additional medical expenses not covered by my MA totaling R5 900 for the year.

2 questions:

a. Am I able to claim an allowable medical deduction?
b. where on the e-filing form would I enter them?

Medical Aid Monthly Contribution VS Tax Credit on Medical Aid?? How to deduct?

Hi Tax Tim
Great website, very helpful over the last couple of months.
I am busy filling in my ITR12, and I have a lot of deductions, ie depreciation etc, but when I enter my medical aid contributions, (paid by myself, R 1900 per month), and I calculate my tax return, it shows in the 4008 field R0.00. Please advise how to make this amount come in to account and how does the new tax credit work in my case? Lastly, re-imbursive travel expenses, how do I deduct this? I travel some times f...

I would like to find out if the amount (if you are the only dependent) is still R720 p/m for the 2012/2013 tax year? Can this amount be claimed by anyone who pays medical aid?

My medical aid contribution was R 24 761 inserted under code 3810, how come my allowed medical deduction is R0?

Can I claim medical expenses for 37 year old son who I have been supporting? He is not on my med ai

I incurred around R4 000 medical expenses for son who is not on a medical aid or on mine. He is 37 years old and doesn't have any disabilities and is not studying. He is also unemployed since returning from overseas. All the medical documents show his name on it, however I paid for all of them via my credit card. Am I able to claim this from SARS?

AVS Bank with AVS verification pass

Hi Tim, I submitted my tax return via e-filing and my banking had changed so I punched in the latest details and SARS put on an audit. I then submitted my IRP5, Bank Statement, Log Book, Medical Certificate of which are the only documents that I can claim for. The Efiling status shows - Correction Filed and and Statement of Account Balance: R -8383.55 and Statement of Account: Assessed Tax. Do you think the audit will go bad?, I ask this because the old Tax practioner that I used to use called ...

Re Medical Scheme Fees Tax Credit Code 4116 on IRP5, ITR12 & ITA34

I noticed my IRP5 had a new Code 4116 Medical Scheme Fees Tax Credit which I did put in my ITR12 amounting to R5520 as we are 2 Members of my medical aid. I then noticed in my ITA34 on the Assessment page under MEDICAL DEDUCTIONS under Code 4020 I am claiming R39597 for Medical Expenses not recovered from Medical BUT then under that in Description it shows;
Medical Tax Credits X4 -R22080.00
Q - My question is why its it showing X4 ?? as that amount would mean R5520 per 2 members per...

I earn around R640k per year. I paid R57 986 in medical contributions for the year and an extra R3406 out of pocket expenses too. I have myself and 4 dependants. It seems that I'm not getting any tax back for my medical expenditure which is really unfair

I was on the employer medical aid for 9 months which amounted to R21 384 for the rest of the tax year I was on my own medical aid and the total became R6780. What do I put on 4040 either amounts or do I only put R6 780. Also will my son's speech therapy be considered a total of R1 725 on 4022? When I calculate the result it shows nothing on 4008. Is this right?
