Tax and overtime - refunds?



I would like you to explain to me why people who work overtime get so little refunds. Ever since I've worked in 2008, I've been getting 24c - 27c as my returns. I have a med aid and my tax certificate yearly shows thay I've paid more than 3 000 out of my pocket. If you can just explain as to why's is it like that, is there something I'm soing wrong?

I did not receive my Medical Aid Contribution Certificate, what can I do?



Would I be able to claim medical aid contributions if I don't have a medical aid tax certificate?
The medical aid no longer exists, and I have been unable to obtain a copy from them.

s10(1)(o)(ii) and once off-contracts



I will be fulfilling a contract overseas for more than 183 days and more than 60 continuous days. I meet these requirements of s10(1)(o)(ii), but I am unsure if the section applies to once-off contracts with an overseas company. The contract will last for more than 10 months however. Does this make me an independent contractor?

Hi Tim, thank you for the great service. My basic salary is R20k, my employer pays R400 and I pay R1200 towards medical aid. I am the principal member with 1 dependant. I would like to clain approx R6000 on code 4020 as my personal med expenses not claimed from med aid. Is this claim valid and approx how much will I get back if anything?

My husband has an IRP5 from his employer and a income tax certificate from his medical aid. His work pays 50% of the medical aid and he pays 50%. But his 50% is deducted before he gets his wages. IRP5 Return 2013



Hi Tim,

I have never submitted an IRP5 form on my own before and very unfamiliar with how it all works.
I earn a gross salary of R87 000 per annum.
I spoke to a someone at the SARS contact centre this morning and they asked why I would want to submit a return if I don't earn more than R250 000 per annum, I explained because I pay for medical aid.

Can I claim for med aid contributions that I pay for my mum ?



I pay my mums medical aid contributions every month via debit order through my bank account. It will cost me more if I add her on as a dependant on my medical aid so I got her onto her own which she is the principal member. Why do I owe SARS money?



Good day, I have a very straight forward tax return: I have an income, I receive a monthly reimbursement towards medical expenses (my husbands company pays for my medical aid) This is added to my monthly income and taxed. How will I know if SARS audit is complete?



I have submitted tax returns for 2011, 2012 and 2013 to get it all up to date. 2013 was not audited and they owed me R3600. 2011 and 2012 I was also owed money, but had to submit supporting documents as they had doubled the medical aid amount for sum reason. What to hand in?



What else should I hand in to accompany my IRP5?

I have started working in July 2011 and tax is deducted in my salary. Will I get my tax money back?



As I was not supplied with the IRP5 and just got it this month. Will I get all my money back as this is the third year without claiming the money?

Can I claim for the depreciation of my vehicle for which I get an allowance or is that included?



I get an allowance of R48 000 p.a and I incured costs of R75 000 inlcusive of the lease payment for the vehicle in my name. I also incured personal expenses of R765 not recovered from the medical aid. The SARS calculator retuned R9885. I dont think thats right.

I bought a flat and hire it out in order to supplement my income, how does the income tax work?

Why do I have an amount on my IRP5 under code 3698?



I just received my IRP5 today from my former employer and I have an amount under code 3698 which I believe is reserved for Gross Non-Retirement Funding Income.
Last Tax Year I was working outside the borders of South Africa and was in the local payroll only because I was in the local Medical Aid (I left my dependents in South Africa while working abroad), I did not receive any other income in South Africa.

What happens if the employer made a mistake on the IRP5s resulting in employees owing SARS?



Employer forgot to include medical contributions' taxable fringe benefit in the calculation of tax payable but reflected the deemed amount under code 3810, 4005 and 4474. As a result of the changes on the way the allowable medical expenses are claimed at assessment, employees end up owing SARS. What options does the employer have to remedy the situation?

Medical tax credit on my income tax return?



I do not belong to a medical aid but I had medical expenses of R14 356.00. I work and paid PAYE. Will I have any claim for the expense even though I did not belong to a medical aid.

Medical aid deductions for tax purposes?



I noticed a deduction on my IRP5 under code 4005 - medical aid contributions. But my employer does not pay my medical aid - I pay the full amount myself after receiving my salary. I asked them about it and they claim that I get the tax benefit on my medical aid monthly. They don't show any deductions/income of this kind on my payslip.

What is Allowable medical Deduction?



When I submitted my tax return via SARS efiling last year, my tax calculation document stated that I had an "Allowable medical Deduction" (code 4008) of R8640. I am on private medical aid and my employer doesn't make contributions to my medical aid.

This year, (even though my total contributions (code 4040) for 2012/2013 have been higher), my "Allowable medical Deduction" is R0. What is this "Allowable medical Deduction" and how is it calculated?
