Deemed disposal of assets after being away from SA for work?

I have been given the advice that I would automatically be considered a non-resident if I spend more than 183 days and more than 60 consecutive days outside of South Africa by SARS and would therefore have my tax status changed to non-resident. SARS would then deem my assets as sold (even though I have not actually disposed of them) and I would be liable to pay CGT.

Is this the case?

Scared housewife - I may owe tax???

I have been a housewife for a very long time. I am now 63 years old. We are married outside community of property. I had a business for a short period, many years back, which failed (I have no business sense it seems) and since then my husband was giving me money every month. It was quite a lot of money at the time, but I didn't really think that it would count as a salary. I bought a house and sold it 10 years later using the money my husband gave me. I got about 500k out from that. I have the ...

Started at new company this year (Online company based in Norway) what tax do I pay?

Up until December 2013 I worked at Incredible Connection. I earned a basic and commission. They always used the PAY-E (Pay as you earn) to pay my tax.

At my new Company, an online company based in Norway, I get paid a salary and commission together in 1 payment. I submit my commission table at the end of the month and I am paid around the 5th-7th of the following month.
My question is:
1) do I need to use an IRP6 now (Provisional) if my only income is via my salary and commission (although it is from a foreign country)? (I earn less than the 250000 per month) average which I think means I don't need an IRP6...

SARS wants me to submit supporting documents, but the document list is empty

I think SARS owes me a refund because my ITA34 reflected a negative number and said "refund due to you". Anyway they are now giving me grief, disputing my refund and demanding I respond in 21 days by sending me a "Final Request to Revise Income Tax Return or Submit Relevant Material". However in this document they say: "In the event that you couldn't find an error, you also had the option of submitting to SARS copies of the following material in support of the declarations made in your income tax return:" This is followed by an empty document list. ...

Ok, so I was retrenched on March 27th 2013. I got a 2 month severance package. From 15th of April up to 30th August I was lucky to get consistent temp jobs. Then from September 1st to October 6th I was unemployed. I left RSA on Oct 7 to come work in Saudi Arabia. Therefore I was unemployed for 50 days and out of SA for 166 days consecutively. Is rental income from my primary residence taxable?

Occasionally I rent out the spare bedroom in my primary residence. I'm not running a guesthouse - it's just a way of making a tiny bit of extra income and meeting some interesting people. I don't often have people staying - maybe for a total of 30 days out of the year. Do I need to declare this as "rental income"? If so,
1. What expenses can I claim against this income?
2. Where do I put it on my return? I'm already using the section "Local business, trade and professional income" for ...

Over a period of several years I was given about 25000 of my company's shares as performance awards and options. Usually I had to wait 3 years before I could take delivery of them but when I retired in 2012 the last of them became available to me immediately and I took delivery by the end of May 2012, planning to keep them indefinitely for their dividend income. I will be earning a foreign income which will be paid into my South African bank account.
