Was unfairly dismissed and at CCMA employer agreed to retrench me. I received the correct tax directive. How do I claim the legal costs incurred to fight my employer? I am unemployment but received rental income from my properties during the tax year.

Hi Tim, I have submitted my tax returns from 2010 to date but did not from 2008 and 2009 as I thought I was below the earning bracket. I called SARS now and I am due for a refund but they want my tax return for 2008 and 2009. How do I go about doing this?

Medical deductions - sole beneficiary or payer?

My mother pays for my medical aid. I am not a dependent on her medical aid, I am the only member/beneficiary on my own plan with a different provider. I earn my own income and as such have to submit a tax return. Is the amount that is paid by my mother deductible from my income or hers under the "Medical Deductions" section on e-filing?

Changed banking details at SARS but old details still show

I have completed my tax return on efiling and SARS owes me money, with no (N) Audit. I changed my banking details at SARS office directly two weeks ago successfully, but when I was busy doing my return online, I noticed my old banking details where still there. I then proceeded to change them to the new ones manually on efiling. Why were my old banking details still visible there? and will they ask me to verify this again, even after I did that at the SARS office?

SARS Statuses

What do the different SARS statuses mean? The ones at the top of SARS eFiling that says "SARS Status". Mine states "Return - Assessed" The reason I am asking is because I have been selected for verification \ audit (again) and was just wondering if this meant that they have looked at the supporting documents and moved on to the next phase? To me "Return - Assessed" means that everything has been looked at and it is almost finalised. Am I correct in thinking so? Thanks

On my IT3b there is an amount Taxable Local Dividend source code 4238. I can not find a source code 4238 on the SARS eFiling generated form. Where do I show the amount?

Hi Taxtim. I already completed my tax return today via sars e-filing. The sars calculator shows a amount refundable to me. What I want to know is, is it correct for me to assume that I can still go ahead with this return despite of the fact that I didn't earn more than R350 000? Also I didn't change jobs, I worked for the same company for a year and 4 months but we were franchised so I have two different IRP5's from two different cc's. Recently I got a bit confused on the SARS eFiling website and accidently requested a tax return for 2005 and 2010. I get very nervous when submitting tax so having seen red text saying a tax return for 2005 and 2010 are incomplete (after I requested them) I completed the tax returns however there was nothing to submit as I was still in high school in 2005 and I was a student at university in 2010.

Registered to e-filling but account is not being found

I just received an email saying that I am not registered to SARS e-filling. I registered at the beginning of May and have the confirmation emails. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about this. Anything to avoid going to the SARS office! :(

Can I claim expenses on bond and transfer fees on investment property?

My bond was registered for my investment property end April 2014. Please advise if I can claim under expenses incurred all of the bond and transfer fees amounting to R31,336. I called SARS contact centre and the lady advised that I am allowed to do so but from her tone of voice was not 100% certain. I have a reference number for the call whereby she agrees that I can claim as an expense. Please can you advise me as to what I should do?
