My tax position at the end of February 2014 after I received income from two different employers
Posted 1 August 2013
Hi Tim
From my permanent employer I received R5000.00 per month which was increased to R5500.00 per month from July 2013. My contract for this job comes to an end half way through January 2014, therefore being 10.5 months of the 2014 tax year. My employer does deduct any amount for PAYE.
From February 2013 to August 2013 (being a 6 month contract) I had a part time job (being a different employer), where I received R3000.00 per month. My employer here deducted R750.00 per month for PAYE....

I am trying to get my (2) tax certificates for 2013 from my medical aid - but they keep sending only the one.
Let me give you more detail: From 01/03/2012 - I was on a different option - up to 31/10/2012
I then retired but carried on with the medical aid - BUT with a different option and a diff. medical aid number.
I have tried everything and they keep giving me only the latest one which is from 01/11/2012
I went into the website (on the old number) but they keep giving me tax certificate for up to 28/2/2012....

Tax code not entered on IRP5 for tax exemption. How do I get this fixed?
Posted 31 July 2013
I have worked out of the country last year for more than 183 days and 60 days continuous.
We do not do this every year, so my employer did not enter the tax code under (Reason for Non deduction of employees tax) (4150) . They said it is to difficult now to change it.
What will I be able to do, to get this fixed, it will probably only be for one last year. Should I go to the Tax office and try to explain?
Thanks

Freelancer - local and international - Needs to start keeping records for tax purposes
Posted 31 July 2013
I have been freelancing for local and international companies for a few months. I need to get my tax admin sorted out. I work from home and am on my husbands medical aid.
Where do I start and how do I maintain all my information that I need to? I'm happy to set up Excel docs to keep records. I'd like to know what I should be keeping records of, where I can benefit from tax refunds, and what expenses I can set against the business. Do you have any templates I could use?

If father A gives child B (not a minor) a donation of R100,000, will that amount be included in child B's gross Income for the period? The same applies to person A donating R100,000 to Trust B, will the R100,000 be included in the Trusts gross income and therefore is it taxable as income?
The IT12 won't open on eFiling
Posted 31 July 2013
I can access the account but it wont generate the IT form. I get as far as to click on IT12z, then the screen goes grey and it sticks there. I don't know what software SARS uses and the agents working there don't know either. I just can't complete, calculate and file an IT12 in one go. Either I can't access the account or can't complete the task.

My eFiling profile says my supporting documents have been converted. How long till I get my refund?
Posted 30 July 2013
Hi Tim
I submitted my tax returns via SARS efiling on the 22nd of July and they asked for supporting documents. I submitted my IRP5 and Medical Aid Tax certificate on the 23rd of July. On my profile it says my documents have been converted....does that mean they have been received? How long till I get my refund? I read on your site that SARS was doing things faster this time around.
PS Thanks for a very informative site, it made my efiling a lot easier.

Can I amend my ITR12 to reflect a correct deduction after its been audited?
Posted 30 July 2013
Can I amend my ITR12 to reflect a correct deduction? I put a deduction for a work laptop that I purchased (I have a laptop allowance) in the wrong section and it was disallowed, so I need to change it. My ITR12 has already been audited and I've been refunded, but the disallowed deduction means I'm owed about R1300 by SARS.
What do I do next?
