Sports coach PAYE
Posted 28 February 2016
A sports coach at a school is paid per hour but only earns around R3000 pm which would normally exclude paying any PAYE. Is this coach still eligible to pay 25% PAYE? This is an independent coach, only on contract for 5 months.

Winning money while abroad, how will it be taxed on return home?
Posted 28 February 2016
I am going abroad soon for 8 months where I will be in the following countries, UK, France, Germany and Australia. I will not be employed by a organization so I will get no wage or salary. I will however be gambling, which is the main reason for going. What I would like to know is the following: would those monies be taxable when I return and how? If I am taxed in the above mentioned countries would the double tax agreement cover gambling also? How would I declare the winnings on my personal tax...

When does the Secondary Tax Rebate Kick in: During the birth month or the tax year one turns 65?
Posted 28 February 2016
I am in my 65th year... ie. I am currently 64 but will be turning 65 in September 2016. This means that when my final 2016/17 tax return is submitted to SARS at tax year end I will technically be entitled to the secondary rebate for the age group 65 - 75. Should my employer calculate my monthly PAYE Deductions at my current age (64), or the age I will be at the time of this final tax submission (65)?

I am an employee, but also a Sole Proprietor. I am an artist. My business is not officially registered yet, but I have been trading for some time now. Do I need to declare the income I earned through freelance work in the same ITR12 that contains the information I received from the IRP5 from my employer, or would I need to declare the freelance income in some other form?

Does a 45-day old business still need to submit a provisional tax return?
Posted 26 February 2016
I am a salaried employee, but since the middle of January 2016 I have been running a business. It's been expensive to set up, and business is slow - I've turned over R50K max and have about R40K of expenses. Do I need to submit a provisional tax return now, or can I carry that amount over and declare it later in the 2017 provisional tax year?

Should I register for IRP6 or IRP3?
Posted 26 February 2016

Do I need to complete an IRP6?
Posted 26 February 2016
You sent me a reminder to file my IRP6 Provisional Tax Return for 2016 however, I'm not sure whether I am still a Provisional Tax payer?
I did freelance work until Feb 2015, and from March 2016 I've been employed, paying PAYE through my employer. I haven't earned any additional income. Do I still need to complete an IRP6 as a Provisional Tax payer?

Can invoicing several clients constitute a salary and not trade?
Posted 26 February 2016
I privately tutor pupils at their homes and invoice several clients for this service. One of them pays me a monthly salary (but pays nothing to SARS) based on monthly invoices and the rest I invoice by the hour. Can I declare all of this as a single salary and pay it with my ITR12 or do I need to register as a provisional taxpayer?
I changed from being employed (normal IRP5 scenario) to self-employed during the last financial year so I am not yet registered for provisional tax

Business runs at a loss - do I need to submit provisional tax return?
Posted 25 February 2016
Another question - what if the business has run at a loss? It's a medical practice, and turns out many of my claims will only be processed in March 2016 i.e Next tax year. That means my total income for the business so far has been R30 000, with expenses totalling R50 000. Surely I don't have to submit a provisional tax return?
Foreign Employer doesn't pay UIF or PAYE for me
Posted 25 February 2016
I am employed by a company outside South Africa and receive my gross salary monthly on which I then need to pay PAYE. My question however relates to UIF. In this set up where the employer does not pay South African taxes, what needs to be done from my perspective in terms of UIF? Do I pay this myself? If so, what percentage - i.e : the 1% normal, or 2% total?
Provisional Tax Form - where to reflect Employees Tax
Posted 25 February 2016
I receive a monthly amount from an Annuity Policy - this is taxed at source. Where in the Provisional Tax Form do I enter the tax paid? I see that previously my accountant entered the tax portion under: LESS: EMPLOYEES TAX PAID FOR THIS PERIOD. I do not see this option in the Provisional Tax Form. Could you please indicate where I find this?

Why am I taxed twice in a month?
Posted 25 February 2016
My salary is divided into 2 payments per like I get my standard pay on the 15th of each month then all my allowances they follow on the 25th. So my question is why am I taxed twice in a month and why is the second tax deduction high than the deduction on the 15th?
Can I claim back my tax?
Posted 25 February 2016
I earn less than R180 000 per annum. I only just entered the work force, and taxes still confuse me. I'm an independent contractor (but get set salary each month), and therefore I pay 25% tax. However, our accountant assured me I can reclaim all the tax I paid. Granted, last yr I earned only R74 000, paying 25% tax, and I know I can reclaim that. Basically, will I be able to reclaim the tax I am paying this year, and what is the maximum annual income for which you can still reclaim your tax?
Tax deduction on provident fund

What will my payout be on the following for my provident fund when I resign. I am not retirement age yet ( 52 years old ). On resignation from the SATU provident fund you are taxed on the full employer share and interest earned on the member share. (not on the member contributions)
My member contributions amounted to R170,585. 44. My current statement shows member and Employer share:
Member share Employer share Total share
R706,779. 50 R689,136....
