My wife and I are members of a medical aid. I am the main member and she is a dependent. The cost of the monthly contributions are partly paid by my employer and partly by myself.
My wife however pays me monthly for our portion of the medical aid monthly expense after it has been deducted from my salary because she earns more than me, but doesn't receive a medical aid option from her work.
My wife also had out of pocket medical expenses amounting to R4 100. In assisting her with her tax return, if we insert her out of pocket medical expenses (source code 4020), the return calculator says a return of zero...

How do I know when my tax return has been accepted/finalised?

Hi Tim,
I have read through your blogs and I have to express my amazement. Really great stuff! I
I completed my tax return last night via eFiling and I have only received an ITA34 almost immediately after filing it. According to the ITA34, SARS owes me R4954. Is there a difference between that and a ITSA? I have never received an ITSA in the past, but it seems like everybody does get one. How do I know that everything is in order and that my return is accepted? I have gone...

Hi Tim.
I made a mistake on my tax return with my independents, I said I have 34 independents instead of 4 silly mistake I know. SARS paid out money to me and now they picked up my mistake 3 months later needless to say I no longer have the money if they want it back. Will I be able to pay this money back in installments and why didn't they pick this up when the tax return was submitted?
After an audit has been completed, will SARS use my 'original IT34A assessment'?

Written by Marc

I recently filed my tax return through the eFiling thing and I was told by SARS that I am being audited. Because I am new to the eFiling thing, I submitted my return twice. The 'original assessment' which showed a -R3,684.00 amount contains the most accurate information as the main difference I noticed between the 'additional assessment' (which stated that I owe SARS over R2,000 ) and the 'original assessment' was the number of people covered on medical aid. In the original assessment, it stated...

However, I will primarily reside in South African during that year and take 4 or 5 trips over to Oz during the course of the year. What are tax implications?

What will happen to the company and how do I go about handling this situation as I need to submit my tax return?

Hi TaxTim, thank you for a great blog-site!
I have a question, I have submitted my tax, also got the letter requesting the IRP5 as code 4102, PAYE credit of R30 551.15 was being questioned. I have submitted the respective IRP5 for review already. Do you have knowledge of:
1. How they would go about inspecting whatever they feel might be wrong on it?
2. How long that process could possibly take?
3. Would they pay out another(next) year if the previous is under above review?...
