PAYE tax credits on IT14

Written by Marc
Posted 13 September 2014
When completing the IRP6 you deduct the amount of PAYE allready paid. When completing the wizard to create the IT14 form, under Tax Credits it asks "Will the company be claiming any PAYE credits reflected on an IRP5 tax certificate" - would you complete this if you deduct PAYE from your employees, like on the IRP6? Or how does this section work?
How do IT3(b)s work for accrued interest to prevent double taxation?

Written by Marc
Posted 13 September 2014
An IT3(b) certificate from my bank for a fixed deposit usually saysNet Accrued: XNet Earned: YInterest: X+YSo X+Y should be declared on my tax return under code 4201 if I understand SARS guidelines correctly. If that is the case, since the accrued interest is not yet paid to me, the following year it will be paid out. Then would it not occur in Net Earned the following year and essentially be taxed again? Or does the IT3(b) take that into account?

Compiling supporting documents for medical expenses not covered by medical aid scheme

Written by Marc
Posted 10 September 2014
I have been asked to submit supporting documents by SARS for verification purposes and I was wondering what the requirement is with regards supporting documents for medical expenses not covered by my medical aid scheme?
On my Income tax certificate from Discovery there are two numbers given. Firstly one number for Contributions during the period and secondly a number for 'Claims not recovered from the Scheme'. I duly included these under the requisite sections when completing my tax return. ...

Can both employer & employee med aid contribution be used in calculating Add Medical tax credit

Written by Marc
Posted 9 September 2014
I need to calculate the Additional Medical Expenses Tax credit to be included onto my Provisional Tax Form IRP6 for 01-2015. Half of my medical Contribution is paid by my employer directly to the medical aid and I pay the other half. Must I use both be added together to include in the calculation? Furthermore I have no excess medical fees/expenses. Another problem is that my 7.5% of my taxable income is greater then the medical value subtotal. This results in a negative value for the Addit...

PIT assurance issues at SARS?

Written by Marc
Posted 8 September 2014
Good day, I have been referred to audit and when I called SARS they confirmed that they are busy with PIT assurance. It has been 2 months now with no correspondence from them what so ever.
Is this PIT a serious audit process because they do not want to disclose any time period?
Will this really take 12 months?

Selected for AUDIT, source code 4102: is my IRP5 the only supporting document to be submitted?

Written by Marc

Hi Tim,I submitted my tax returns today at a SARS branch. I have been selected for audit and this is what is stated in the audit letter."This is the result of certain declarations that were made which appear not to be correct or in agreement with other data which SARS has in its possession. For source code 4102, a PAYE Credit of (x-amount) has been assessed against your ITR12 return."From reading your responses to other people asking about the supporting documents to be submitted, I need to...

A friend of mine, has submitted her IT12 by e-filing, she was then asked to submit supporting documents, once these were submitted, she was told that she will be audited as part of the tax compliance procedure. She is concerned because when submitting her IT12, she had lost her log book and had to redo this from memory and is now worried that the log book will be inaccurate and the audit will bring this up. As she doesn't want to get into trouble, she wants to know if it is still possible to do ...

Objection allowed, how long before SARS refunds me?

Written by Marc
Posted 6 September 2014
I completed my 2014 tax return in July, but was then chosen for audit. After receiving a finalisation letter, I was chosen for a 2nd audit and requested to send more doc's. eFiling however was not "opened up" so the doc's could be uploaded, and an ITA34 was issued without the necessary doc's. I disputed the assessment, and received a notification that the objection was allowed on the 3rd of September. How long will it now take SARS to refund the money into my account?
eFiling restricts the way in which the different methods of calculating CGT may be entered?

Written by Marc
Posted 6 September 2014
There are 4 methods of calculating CGT. A primary residence sale using method 1,2 or 3 shows a capital gain. eFiling appears to restrict the manner in which the figures may be entered. How may I enter one or other of the methods of calculating the gain?
