Second IT34 says amount payable by you. Do I owe them or not?
Posted 15 September 2014
After a audit the amount that was owed to me, that had a negative, now shows that that same amount is payable by me. Almost had a heart attack. But when I read on. It says that my acc is 0.00. I don't understand why I owe them. I only claimed my cash medical payments. And been paying my tax as I should. How can I owe them. First ITA34 shows -9690.00. Second ITA34 shows 9690 payable by you. I don't have this kind of money. I think something went wrong. If they say 0.00 account in the second parag...

Return - Data Submitted To ITS : efiling
Posted 15 September 2014
I have done my tax return on efiling for 2014, and which is now: 'Return ?%u20AC%u201C Data Submitted To ITS'. My assessment has been done, and I have received a statement of account and the completion letter as well. The statement reflects that there is a refund due to me.
My question: How long does it take for SARS to process my refund, and how long do I have to wait for the amount to be paid into my account?

PAYE tax credits on IT14
Posted 13 September 2014
When completing the IRP6 you deduct the amount of PAYE allready paid. When completing the wizard to create the IT14 form, under Tax Credits it asks "Will the company be claiming any PAYE credits reflected on an IRP5 tax certificate" - would you complete this if you deduct PAYE from your employees, like on the IRP6? Or how does this section work?
How do IT3(b)s work for accrued interest to prevent double taxation?
Posted 13 September 2014
An IT3(b) certificate from my bank for a fixed deposit usually saysNet Accrued: XNet Earned: YInterest: X+YSo X+Y should be declared on my tax return under code 4201 if I understand SARS guidelines correctly. If that is the case, since the accrued interest is not yet paid to me, the following year it will be paid out. Then would it not occur in Net Earned the following year and essentially be taxed again? Or does the IT3(b) take that into account?

Can both employer & employee med aid contribution be used in calculating Add Medical tax credit
Posted 9 September 2014
I need to calculate the Additional Medical Expenses Tax credit to be included onto my Provisional Tax Form IRP6 for 01-2015. Half of my medical Contribution is paid by my employer directly to the medical aid and I pay the other half. Must I use both be added together to include in the calculation? Furthermore I have no excess medical fees/expenses. Another problem is that my 7.5% of my taxable income is greater then the medical value subtotal. This results in a negative value for the Addit...

Selected for AUDIT, source code 4102: is my IRP5 the only supporting document to be submitted?
Posted 8 September 2014
Hi Tim,I submitted my tax returns today at a SARS branch. I have been selected for audit and this is what is stated in the audit letter."This is the result of certain declarations that were made which appear not to be correct or in agreement with other data which SARS has in its possession. Posted 8 September 2014
A friend of mine, has submitted her IT12 by e-filing, she was then asked to submit supporting documents, once these were submitted, she was told that she will be audited as part of the tax compliance procedure. She is concerned because when submitting her IT12, she had lost her log book and had to redo this from memory and is now worried that the log book will be inaccurate and the audit will bring this up. As she doesn't want to get into trouble, she wants to know if it is still possible to do ...

Use of employer Owned cellphone for fringe benefit purposes?
Posted 5 September 2014
We have entered into 20 cellphone contracts with a service provider this month. We will be giving our staff members employer owned handsets to use for work purposes ie business calls, work emails. These will come with R100 airtime, 300MB of data, 25 sms per month. We will be paying R280 per phone pm.
Please advise on whether this fringe benefit is fully taxable. Someone from SARS just told me that it is but I don't believe him.
Still no refund paid 1.5 months after completion letter from SARS.
Posted 5 September 2014
I filed my tax return on 14-7-2014, got a completion letter on 25-7-2014 with an amount payable to me. On my eFiling tax workpage it says under Sars status: "Return ?%u20AC%u201C Data Submitted To ITS". They still didn't pay the money into my account. I phoned Sars and asked what the problem was and they only replied that it sometimes takes as long as 30 working days from the date of filing.
I still didn't get the money. What can I do next?
