Just want to know how it works with the Medical Aid Tax Credits. My friend works for a private company and on his Pay Slip under credits he has Medical Aid Tax Credit and the amount that is credited to his PAYE. I however work for Dept Health, the Government and on our salary advice there has been no change. Provisional tax, what must I submit?



As a provisional tax payer I submit returns from September 2012- 28 February 2013. Am I allowed to submit on 1 March 2013? Do I need to submit receipts/ documents as some receipts have faded. Or is it acceptable to submit a summary of my expenses as I have recorded them?

I am retired and my income is from Momentum who have invested my Pension Contributions when I retired. I always go to SARS to assist with my Return and was told last year that I am a provisional tax payer because of the savings I have and the interests I receive from these (over the allowed amount). I don't know how to answer "Did you make any retirement annuity contributions?"... I do have a retirement fund, but the contributions come straight from my Cost of Employment at the University of Cape Town before I get my salary, and they're on my IRP5.

What are the allowable retirement annuity deductions?

The ITR12 is not the only SARS tax form that needs completion, there is the IT34 final assessment that also needs completion.

How do I get my IT3b and IT3c forms?



How/where exactly does one get the IT3b and/or IT3c forms from and how do I know if I qualify for/need them? I have some minor money market investments, but am not sure if the interest earned on those is taxable as it is so little, so I'm not sure whether I need to submit these forms in the first place.

Do I need to manually request these from my bank/financial institutions or should they be sending them to me automatically?

What is tax on a pension fund withdrawal?



I resigned from my previous employer on the 28th Fevruary 2012 and got paid a pension lump sum in April 2012. The lump sum was taxed at 18% (witheld by the pension administrator). I got employed in August 2012 and I am on a new pension fund and paying PAYE normally. For my 2013 tax return, will SARS refund me the tax the deducted for me cashing out the pension lump sum?

I do not have all the information yet but I completed the return as far as I think is correct.

My tax consultant only now told me as a provisional taxpayer I should have done a return for 2012/2013 tax year in August and a second one in February. It is now late January - so do I send in two returns or just one?

SARS lump 2 salaries together, a full time and a part-time salary.



My wife worked full time for Johannesburg General Hospital for 2011 and she started to work part time from the 1st of December 2011 for Doctor Gordon's practice. SARS has add the two salaries. Supporting documents - what if they are not submitted on time? I uploaded and forgot to submit?



Hi Tim, great website and good gen. SARS phoned me asking for a schedule of my deductions. I uploaded it and forgot to click on 'submit', then received a second assessment disallowing the deductions - probably because I didn't submit the document.

What do you suggest? If I lodge a notice of objection, will they allow the late submission of the document? How much should I explain to them - fall on their mercy regarding my mistake, or just assert that I am entitled to the deductions? <...
