Incorrect tax calculated

  Written by Marc

I started a new job in January 2015. Our work uses VIP payroll for calculating and processing salaries. My gross salary is R43333. 33 per month (no other benefits). Why would the tax on my pay slip show R12 718. 35? Per the tax tables and this website I should be paying tax of R10 379. 04 together with UIF of R148. 72. R2 339. 31 of additional tax is being deducted. Why is this? And will it be corrected in future months?

S10(1)(o)(ii) - does all the time out of SA need to be spent actually working?

  Written by Marc

I am a freelancer, and last year I spent 248 days out of SA, in three blocks (including one block of more than 60 days). During some of this time out of the country, I did some contract work - two jobs for two different foreign companies, and one job for a South African company. But I spent much of the time not actually working, but travelling/holidaying. Of the 248 days, only 97 were spent on work contracts. So I just want to clarify whether the income I earned on those three contract jobs is t...

  Written by Marc

I currently earn a salary above R70,000 a year and I want to start doing some freelancing work where I will be serving mainly international clients and will be paid through PayPal and then withdraw that money to FNB.
I will be doing this job as a hobby so I expect to make maybe few hundred rands a month, and sometimes less, so it won't really be an income.
So I need to know if I have to register for provisional tax?

This was followed up with a Statement of Account on December 24th. We are yet, however, to receive any refund from SARS.
