Sequestration - how to submit details to two returns
Posted 10 July 2015
I was sequestrated in June 2014 and applied for a new tax reference. How do I submit my medical aid and RA contributions as I have to tax returns to complete:
Supply the same information on both tax returns and SARS figures out the rest?
Or do I have to request new tax certificates and have the institutions split the contributions for each of the tax references / periods?
What constitutes business mileage if I stay temporarily closer to work?
Posted 10 July 2015
I live in one city and my normal office is in the city. I am currently involved in a project in another city which takes me away there for extended periods. I have a flat in the other city which I stay in while I am working there. What constitutes business mileage? I would think travel from home to the distant site would be business mileage. However probably not the daily commute in from my flat. Is this correct, or would the total distance away from my home be business mileage?
Tax up to date but SARS saying I owe them
Posted 10 July 2015
Last year all my outstanding previous years 2006 to 2014 was brought up to date via SARS eFiling and finally having to go into SARS to submit documents. After accumulative penalties deducted (R14k) and an audit I still managed to get a refund which was paid to me 15 July 2014 (11k).
This season 1 July 2015 I submitted my tax return, again I was selected for audit. SARS requested supporting docs which I submitted as per notification and I'm due a refund. Today I contacted SARS to inquire what the hold up was regarding my refund (R5k) and was informed that I owe SARS R4k which I have to settle first before I can receive my refund. ...

Do I pay PAYE on R5000 per month?
Posted 10 July 2015
Good day. I earn R5000 per month. My question is this, is there a need for PAYE deductions? And if I pay PAYE do I still need to personally pay tax to SARS at the end of every year? Please explain to me how this works. Is PAYE not already paying the tax you are liable for?
Previous year IRP5 submitted accidentally
Posted 10 July 2015
Hi,
I submitted my tax return for 2015 on the 3rd July 2015, was due to receive a refund. After a couple of days of no refund, I called the help desk - apparently I did not submit any tax returns for 2009 & 2010 (my job during that time did not pay enough to warrant a tax return).
Anyways I requested the 2009 and 2010 tax return.... The 2010 tax return had all my details and I promptly submitted it with no issues, however my 2009 tax return, instead of selecting save (was b...

Why am I being audited when all my income, deductions and benefits are reflected on my IRP5?
Posted 10 July 2015
Hi Tim;
I recently completed and sent my tax return via SARS eFiling. I was selected for auditing and asked to provide supporting documents. I have nothing complicated going-on: I earn income only from my employer. All my benefits and deductions with respect to retirement fund and medical aid are all reflected on my IRP5 i.e. I don't have a personal retirement annuity or medical aid scheme outside of those in my salary package; as reflected on my IRP5. So what could be the problem?

SARS Audit - Proof for sideline income
Posted 10 July 2015
I'm being audited by SARS, they have asked me for bank statements and payslips. I do currently have a permanent job, but have a part time or side line job as well. The amounts I get paid to do the work is not a constant amount every month and some months has no income at all. These payments are either in cash or via eft which will be on my bank statements of course.
What would the impact on myself be from SARS? I complete my tax every year, but this is the first time I get asked to p...

How long after submitting supporting documents should you get your refund?
Posted 10 July 2015
My tax return is done by a tax consultant. He's been doing my tax for years without any problems. This year he submitted my tax return, and informed me that SARS asked for supporting documents. I only have my IRP5, RA and one income protection policy (that I am not even sure makes a difference). All this was submitted last week, and I have not heard anything since. How long does it take on average to review these documents?

Travel allowance section
Posted 10 July 2015
I get reimbursed for travel allowance and it is put under code 3702. I have 2 questions:
1: On the first page of the tax return should I tick "Yes" for claiming against a travel allowance?
2: My log book and the amount under 3702 don't match since the travel for the second half of Feb 2015 is actually only paid to me in March 2015.

Which will leave us with a minimum yearly wage of R28800 and maximum R84000. Will we deduct employees tax from our employers or not and what do we do with SARS regarding this issue.
