Salary / IRP5 Posts in Tax Q&A

Outstanding tax return is holding up my refund, I cannot get the IRP5 as employer is deceased.

Hey Taxtim. I submitted my tax returns on the 10th of July this year. SARS informed me that I would get a refund of about R17000, which I desperately need. After a few days I called them to ask when I might receive this refund, they informed me that they are not going to give it to me yet as I have outstanding tax returns for 2012.

I did not have this issue last year when I filled or the previous year. I worked for a company from February 2011 until August 2011, I was never issued an IRP5 or any payslip. ...

Changed jobs and paid too much tax - can I claim it back?

I had a low income job for 11 months of the year. My yearly income would have been under the threshold, so I never paid any tax. I am not sure if my employer registered me, but I never received any tax documents or tax number. In February 2015 I started a new job with a higher salary. My yearly salary now puts me above the threshold and my new employer registered me and I've been paying tax since Feb. But since I only did this job for 1 month of the last tax year, my yearly income for 2014/2015 tax year remains under the threshold of R70 700. ...

No IRP5 information for 2010

After submitting my 2015 tax return and not getting any feedback from SARS, I called the call centre. They told me that my assessment is on hold until I submit my 2010 tax return. The problem with that is the company I worked for at that time liquidated in April of 2010 and did not submit their EMP501, thus no IRP5s were issued. There is no data in the 2010 tax return. How do I go about filing the tax return? I don't not have all the payslips for that period either.

What is the maximum amount (percentage) that one is allowed as travel allowance based on the total package earned, ie: If my total package is say R10 000, maximum amount allowed as travel allowance is say 30%, then my salary will be R7000 and my travel allowance R3000.
