Too small travel allowance - different to actual costs

  Written by Evan

I have a R 2 500 travel allowance (R 30 000 a year) provided to me. But for 2015 I calculated my true travel costs (travel allowance) and it should have been R 70 000 a year.

Travel allowance on my IRP5 R 30 000

Can I claim the R 70 000 tax deductible or am I limited to R 30 000 tax deductible?

  Written by Evan

Dear Tim

I was unemployed for the tax period 2014/2015 and received 0 income. I however paid my monthly medical for my spouse and one adult dependent which totaled R62,064.00 and unclaimed from the medical aid of R2,874.00.

Why a second round of audits is required - why not do an end-to-end audit first time?

  Written by Evan

I submitted my tax return on 10 July & a correction on 14 July (simple mistake in 1 line item which had zero financial impact). I received notice that I was being audited & was requested to submit documentation (twice) before 16 days later, on 30 July, receiving confirmation that my account had been finalised (with no changes) & that I would receive settlement within 21 working days. Today, a full 20 days after my account was "finalised", I have received notice of the commencement of a second audit & a request to submit the very documentation that was vetted by SARS 3 weeks ago. ...

Audit processes delay

  Written by Evan

I submitted my tax returns for the new tax year on the 2nd July. Simple, just my IRP5 and medical aid tax certicate. They asked for the supporting documents, done this on the 2nd.

The call centre agents are useless. When will I get paid my refund? The amount is -R8500. First time SARS owes me so much money ever. I filed my tax returns early and submitted the docs same time, now why the delay?

4018 on IRP5 - Do I claim on this or not?

  Written by Evan

I have no external RA or income protection policies, just what ever the company offers. I see that I have a 4018 deduction on my IRP5 for R980. When doing my tax returns do I select I have a RA/income protection on the form wizard which populates the fields to enter? Do I enter the whole wear and tear value in my tax return or only the "official" part?

  Written by Evan

When calculating the wear and tear on my car I take the original cash purchase price and divide that by 5. I have two IRP5s, when I submit each tax return individually my refundable amount on one is - R28000 on and -R24000 on the other. When I add them together my total refundable amount is -R18000?

I don't understand how the amount would come down? Surely they should be added together?
