I have a PTY(ltd) company and would like to know if I must register for PAYE. I am the only person/owner/director in the company with no employees who derives an annual gross Salary of R72000pa.
Can you be taxed more on your salary by employer?

Awesome website you have, I currently reside in Cape Town and I am a South African resident, I recently quit my South African job in July 2015. I am a shareholder in a private company. I get a company car benefit of R800 000 to be used for 1 or 2 cars. I am for best way to structure package. My wife has a R200 000 car and I have a R400 000 car. I do very few business km and ride my private motorcycle to work mainly. I am thinking of switching my car to car allowance. As a provisional taxpayer, what expenses can I claim to reduce my tax. I travel to clients, can I claim my travelling, also I had to replace engine and clutch I this tax year, can I claim for these expenses and what portion would I get back from SARS

If you are self employed and pay provisional, can we use the SARS tables or are we required to give actual costs.... I. E. Fuel repairs...,,
If we are required to give actual cost can we claim back finance repayments or the interest only, aswell as 20 % depreciation...
Exceeding 8000km for 3703 code

Hi Tim. Each month, my payslip has indicated payment of non taxable reimbursement of travel expenses to me. Having exceeded the 8000km, should my tax return indicate the 8000km reimbursement as tax free (3203) and the excess as taxable (3702), or does the entire amount become taxable (3702).

I should be able to claim a travel allowance as I am consulted out to one or more clients on a permanent basis from my employer. However, I don't have a travel allowance on my payslip and I need on in order to claim. I can request for an allowance to be added, but it needs to be added as a matter of urgency to be part of this tax year. Question is how much do I set the amount to? Would it need to be 12x what the normal amount should be?
Do directors have to pay PAYE?

I have seen a few times where directors of companies are not paid the same amount each month. The company does not pay PAYE over each month (in fact company is not registered for PAYE) and all that happens is the director declares his total earnings/drawings for the year in his ITR12 at the end of the year. This amount then corresponds to the "directors emolument" line item in the financial statements. Is this okay to do this?

Hello
My father-in-law lives in Mauritius and is coming to SA in April for a holiday. He wants to send money (R50,000) to my bank account so that I can pay deposits, etc. I've phoned my bank and they say I can give the reason as "travel by non-resident". But they can't tell me if I'll need to declare the money or if I'll be taxed. Can you help me please?

I need guidance on what is required ito independent contractor (IC) tax & vat requirements. 1) If trading through my PTY LTD company as an IC, do I pay companies tax as well as personal income tax?
2) Do I deduduct all claims and deductions (medical aid, RA) prior to paying over tax, or only when I reconcile/ file tax?
3) How many times a year do I need to file tax returns?
4) Do I need to setup PAYE and UIF?

Car allowance claim

I have submitted my tax return. Was audited and my car allowance claim excluded as they requested the purchase documentation for the car. Apparently they tried to phone me couldn't get a hold of me and then finalised it without the documentation. My question is. The car was purchased and registered in my husbands name. We are married in community of property. The insurance is in my name. He pays for the car and myself the insurance. Will that be a problem?

I am 69 years old an SA Permanent Resident not a Citizen. I am a UK Citizen. South Africa is my normal place of residency. But I sold my house in South Africa in October 2009. I took out this money as a holiday allowance in January of 2010 in Travellers Cheques. I did not close my South African Bank Account (holiday not leaving)

Can I invest more in a private RA if my company makes a contibution to a provident fund

My company makes a 100% contribution to my provident fund, including all fees. On my salary slip, this is shown as a company contribution, and not as a deduction. I understand that there is a tax benefit when contributing up to 15% of my non pensionable salary to a retirement savings scheme. Because the contribution is shown as a company contribution and not as a deduction, does this mean that I still have the full 15% available to contribute to a private RA?

I am currently a salaried employee and I get deductions for:
- Medical aid
- Travel allowance
- Retirement (RA)
I am considering contracting (to one client). Will my total monthly invoiced amount be taxed normally? I will have to pay for medical, travel and RA directly. Am I losing out or do I still claim for these somehow?
