Is the sale of a business taxable?



If I were to sell a business, would I pay tax on the sale price? and if appropriate, how would this tax be calculated?

I am on work permit on a foreign passport, I do not have an SA ID number - how do I submit returns?



How do I efile? I need to know, how do I file with my foreign passport number? This is my first return. I am being paid with deductions at source by my employer.

Offshore tax exemption



There are roamers stating that if you work outside SA (offshore and not shore based) and your income is foreign based you do not require the 60 day period as indicated in section 10 o or 10 (1)o and in some instances don't even require the 183 day if you have been tax exempt for more that 5 years continuously . Please could you shed some light on these roamers..

I currently work for a company in the Netherlands. I don't work in the Netherlands, I actually travel / work throughout Africa excluding South Africa. When I receive my Salary in South Africa it is paid from one of our subsidiary companies in Cyprus (which I know is a tax free haven). I would like to know if I have to follow the SA Tax Law?

Am I considered a tax resident in South Africa?



I have been working temporarily in South Africa for the last 6 years.. Over the last 2 years I work in SA less than 183 days per year and am out the country for more than 60 days continually, but if I add up the number of days I have spent in the last 5 years in SA it is over 915 days. My house is out of SA.

Capital gains tax on shares sold



Hi, In the current tax year I sold shares in my 3 year old business to my other shareholder. The shareholder transferred the agreed amount via an attorney (they subtracted their fees related to this transaction) to my account. The nett amount was in the low millions and I expect the full amount to be subject to CGT.

I live overseas do I need to change my address with SARS?



I moved out of SA and do not currently earn any money, my address on my tax return is still my SA address, do I need to change it to my overseas one? I have not emmigrated and still have active accounts in SA. I return only for short holidays and am not sure if I intend returning at this stage.

How does the taxation of freelance pilots income when they go on contract abroad?



I am working as a freelance pilot, invoicing a company per daily perdiem, or s & t as its called in Dollar,they taxed me 25 % out of the blue. I have done contracts for a long time and it has never happened before as I comply with the exemption requirements always for the time spent in the other countries, please advise?

How do I declare untaxed remuneration as a freelancer?



I freelance for two publishers, only one of whom deducts 25% PAYE. Last year I received IRP5s from both, but this year only from the one who deducted PAYE. SARS says the other one MUST supply an IRP5, but they disagree. How do I declare this untaxed income on my return in the absence of an IRP5? On my return I answered the question regarding extra income and/or expenses as 'yes' but there is no space on the form where I can fill in this untaxed income.

I submitted my IRP5 and received an SMS saying account balance: -12000. Selected for audit.

Do I have to be registered with SARS if I don't work?



I am a housewife and someone said to me that SARS must know of my existence. Is this true? Is it necessary to aggravate myself by standing in insanely long queues?

What does documentation for review actually mean?



Hi there, all documents that SARS requested has been reviewed and given the all clear from the auditor at my local branch, when I called the call center they could not assist in telling me how long till the finalization. I don't understand if the all clear has been given by the auditor surely they can finalize it and do the payout? Or am I missing something?

I have finished my claim, I noticed a place on the form to enter the interest I paid to the bank for the finance. Is there no way to claim for the actual money I paid for the flat each month compared to what I earned each month in rent?
